ICC World Cup SA vs BAN: Another gargantuan victory for South Africa; beat Bangladesh by 149 runs

Continuing their dominance in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the South African team defeated the Bangladesh team by 149 runs at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. With this win, South Africa has jumped to the second position right below India on the points table with a net run rate of 2.37. Yesterday, Afghanistan pushed Bangladesh to seventh place after registering an eight-wicket win over Pakistan.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat.

What at one point looked like a walk in the park for South Africa, slowly turned into a struggle. While the South African sought to finish the game early, Bangladesh, which lost six wickets before it made it past 85, fought back in the latter half.

Bangladesh began the match strongly, securing two quick breakthroughs. Shoriful Islam dismissed Reeza Hendricks for 12 runs off 19 balls, while shortly after, Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped Rassie van der Dussen LBW, sending him back to the pavilion after just 1 run from 7 deliveries.

However, Quinton de Kock went on to display remarkable form by amassing 174 runs from 140 deliveries, notching his third century in just five World Cup fixtures. Aiden Markram provided strong support, contributing 60 runs from 69 balls. The dynamic Henrich Klaasen, known for his tournament impact, continued to shine, blasting 90 runs in only 49 deliveries. South Africa’s innings concluded on a high note, thanks to David Miller, who remained unbeaten at 34 runs from 15 balls.

In their response, the Bangladeshi crumbled like a house of cards initially, losing six of their wickets way too early in the game. However, the team clawed their way back on the back of Mahmudullah who hit 111 runs in 111 deliveries. The South African bowlers and fielders seemed to struggle to end the game as Bangladesh fought till their last breath.
